The 4th of July and Our Saving Grace

Happy 4th of July to everyone!  We certainly missed family over the holiday weekend, and bemoaned the lack of cool parades with water fight endings here in Charlotte.  Hope that you all had a great 4th.

We did go with people from church to the neighboring town of Kannapolis where we listened to a symphony play patriotic music.  Everyone brings blankets and chairs and spreads out for an evening of music, followed by fireworks.  Here's what Mia thought of the symphony:

It amazes me that kids are able to peacefully sleep while surrounded by a crowd of 16,000 and a full orchestra booms out some Sousa.  Mia did wake up for the fireworks, and to join in on the glow stick rave that the group of children we were with were holding.

We also went to the Museum of History here in Charlotte to enjoy the special holiday pricing (free) and have a picnic lunch on the grounds.  The museum is home to the largest bell in the world...well, bell "on ground". And that was the only thing we saw that day that interested our children.  Display cases full of old stuff?  Didn't care.  Tour of the oldest house in North Carolina, boasting ventilation true to its era on a mid-summer's afternoon?  No interest. Making a sachet filled with rosemary leaves?  Okay, mild interest in what they thought were smelly necklaces.  We had a very hot picnic, and Carson swore an oath that we would never do anything outdoors again in the summer that did not involve water.

Which brings us to our saving grace:

The pool.  Oh, the pool.  We love it and its rehydrating powers.  The kids have a great time playing in the water. Jackson is cautious, Mia is daring.  They are a funny pair.

The other night, it was so humid, the outside of our car window was fogging up.  It was like liquid air.  FYI-defrosters don't work on outside condensation. We think our sisters-in-law Allana and Jenny would love it here.  So, come on out, and slather some of this wonderfully MOIST air all over your skin, and revel in its Moisty-liciousness (that's for you, pal).

Yay! You are blogging! You are a better woman than I. Your house is adorable and you will get used to the humidity. On your next trip to Utah you will wonder why you feel as if a bloody nose is coming on and then you will bemoan the dryness. Plus, your curly hair rocks in the steamy air. The outside condensation comment made me laugh because I have been there. Try the windshield wipers. Love and miss you all!
